Managing Partner

Dato’ M. Rajasekaran (DSPJ, AMP)

Dato’ M. Rajasekaran graduated with a Bachelor of Laws with Honours from the University of London in 1982. He is a member of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple and was called to the Bar of England and Wales on 28.7.1983. Dato’ Raja was later admitted and enrolled as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on 28.7.1984. Notably in 2021, he was also granted ad hoc admission to the High Court of Sabah and Sarawak for purposes of appearing as Counsel for an appeal at the Federal Court.

He started legal practice in Kuala Lumpur joining the litigation team in a large full-service firm in December 1987 where he was admitted into partnership on 1 October 1989 . Dato Raja  worked there for 35 years, having served as Managing Partner and a member of the Executive Committee of the Firm for many years. 

Dato’ Raja is a member of the Arbitration Panel of the Asian International Arbitration Center. He is also a member of the International Bar Association. He was appointed by the South East  Asian Games Federation as Chairman of the Ad-hoc Arbitration Panel for the 29th SEA Games Kuala Lumpur in 2017 (the first such Panel in the history of the Games) and again for the 32nd SEA Games 2023 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

In 2020, Dato’ Raja obtained a Certificate of Advanced Studies in International Sports Law from the University of Zurich, Switzerland, where he joined the on campus programme for 6 months, taking a sabbatical from practice to do so. 

Dato’ Raja is currently a member of the World Baseball Softball Confederation Integrity Commission Disciplinary Panel and World Paravolley Safeguarding Integrity Commission. 

Dato’ Raja is now a Managing Partner in Messrs Rajasekaran where his practice is in arbitration and mediation, civil, commercial and corporate litigation, sports law and advisory work.

Partner

Annabel Kok Keng Yen

Annabel is a Partner with the firm’s Corporate and Real Estate practice. She brings with her 10 years of experience in the full range of domestic and cross border transactions from her years with 2 large full service law firms in Kuala Lumpur.

Annabel has handled a broad range of matters including various corporate and commercial briefs relating to mergers & acquisitions, private equity investments, foreign investments, joint ventures and corporate restructurings/ reorganisations across various sectors such as financial services, consumer goods and retail, and manufacturing.

She also frequently advises clients on competition law, consumer protection, personal data protection, fintech and insurance related issues.

Annabel is also experienced in real estate transactions where she has acted for local and foreign clients on matters relating to leases, tenancies, disposal and acquisition properties, joint development and land development matters.

She has written for several esteemed legal publications including Getting The Deal Through and Chambers & Partners. Further, Annabel has conducted various seminars on current legal topics of interest

Senior Associate

Keshava Rajasekaran

Keshava graduated from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London with an LLB Honours degree and completed his Certificate of Legal Practice. Having decided on a career at the Commercial Bar, he commenced pupillage at one of the largest law firms in the country and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2020.

Keshava honed his trial skills and knowledge of commercial litigation under the banking & general litigation team of a midsize law firm alongside Mr Wong Hock Mun, the lead litigation partner and a respected trial lawyer in the country. His time here was spent on commercial disputes, banking and insurance litigation, claims in contract and negligence and the defence of fellow practitioners under the Bar mandatory professional insurance scheme.

Keshava also brings with him the insight of a full practice in Industrial Relations from a premier, boutique firm that concentrates on this area of the law. During his time as a senior associate with the firm, Keshava, under the tutelage of the IR heavyweight, Dato’ Thavalingam, acted for and advised large corporates, public listed companies, government linked companies and statutory bodies within this area. He has conducted and assisted in various interlocutory matters, trials, appeals and judicial review applications. Separately on non-contentious work, Keshava regularly provided written assessments and advice supporting this with attendances at client meetings, Board included. He also conducted frequent training sessions with talks to fellow practitioners and clients in this area.

At Messrs Rajasekaran, Keshava will continue to work in these areas of the law and intends to develop a thriving commercial and corporate law practice.

Associate

Kam Kai Yan

Kai Yan who hails from Penang completed her early education in the state with stellar grades before entering the University of Malaya, the country’s premier university. She joined the University’s highly regarded law school for  the Bachelor of Laws programme (LLB). She graduated with Honours in 2022, giving her what she terms an academic milestone  equipping her with an understanding of legal principles that she is eager to apply in the service of justice.

Kai Yan was admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on 7.7.2023 and started practice at Messrs Rajasekaran. She works in civil, commercial and corporate litigation and banking and finance, often with the partners and consultant whom she assists. She finds the courtroom fascinating and is keen on building a future at the Bar.

Associate

Raaswin Roshan Raj

Raaswin believes his educational journey is a testament to his unwavering commitment to academic excellence and the pursuit of legal expertise. He pursued the Cambridge International A Levels at Tunku Abdul Rahman University College and continued at the University of the West of England in Bristol (UWE Bristol), United Kingdom, where he earned the  Bachelor of Laws (Honours). Recognising the pivotal role of advocacy in  litigation , he undertook the LLM + Bar Training Course at UWE Bristol, culminating with a ‘Very Competent’ grade in the latter. He is presently in the final stages of the LLM programme specializing in Commercial Law and Advance Criminal Law.

In addition to his academic achievements, Raaswin is a proud member and Barrister-at-Law of the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple and was admitted as an Advocate & Solicitor of the High Court of Malaya on 28.7.2023.

As a Legal Associate at Messrs Rajasekaran, Raaswin’s primary focus is in insurance and in medico-legal disputes. He works independently and with the partners,assisting in trials and hearings learning as he grows in stature.
